Job 20:5 The good times of the wicked are short-lived; godless joy is only momentary.

  1. The futility of seeking happiness
    1. It is natural for us to seek that which is most important to us
    2. Solomon discovered the futility of making happiness or pleasure our goal in life – Ecclesiastes 2:1-3, 10-11
    3. Happiness is the bi-product of a Godly life – Psalm 37:3-4
  2. Two lives in contrast:
    1. The blessed man – Psalm 1:1-3
      1. His walk is Godly
      2. His delight is in God’s Word
      3. He prospers
    2. The wicked man – Psalm 1:4-6
      1. He has no lasting impact
      2. God is not on his side
      3. He will perish
  3. The life of joy – John 15:1-11
    1. The purpose of these instructions was to bring complete joy – vs. 11
    2. Joy begins with a growing relationship with God, illustrated by the vine and the branches – vs. 1-4
    3. The person who remains in Christ will be fruitful – vs. 5
    4. The person who remains in Christ will experience God’s provision – vs. 7
    5. The person who remains in Christ will experience God’s love – vs. 8-10
    6. The final result is maximum joy
